Contact us

Due to their complex geometry and small diameters, precision turned parts are manufactured using CNC machines and are used, for example, in valve technology, sensor and measuring devices, and in numerous industries. If you have any questions about our precision turned parts, please contact info@fluehs.de or call us on +49 2351 975-0.

On this site, we describe the different types of precision turned parts and explain how they are manufactured.

Precision Turned Parts

Precision turned parts are components manufactured using CNC lathes, such as spindles, hubs, or screws, which have a complex geometry and are mainly made of metals, non-ferrous metals, or plastics.

Customer Specific Precision Turned Parts

Customer specific precision turned parts are turned parts manufactured individually according to customer requirements. Flühs works closely with the customer in all process steps for customer specific precision turned parts to ensure a high degree of accuracy and compliance with the required tolerances.

Simple Precision Turned Parts

Simple precision turned parts are turned parts such as union nuts or nipples, which have a small diameter and comparatively simple geometries. Flühs manufactures simple precision turned parts in series production using CNC lathes.

Complex Precision Turned Parts

Complex precision turned parts are turned parts with, for example, complicated shapes and parts with different diameters. With state-of-the-art CNC lathes and turn-mill centers, Flühs has cutting-edge technology in its production facilities, which enables the manufacture of complex precision turned parts.

Precision Turned Parts Made of Stainless Steel

Precision turned parts made of stainless steel are often manufactured from chrome-nickel or chrome-nickel-molybdenum alloys and are characterized by high corrosion resistance and durability. Flühs manufactures high-quality precision turned parts made of stainless steel in series production.

Precision Turned Parts Made of Brass

Precision turned parts made of brass are turned parts made of a copper-zinc alloy, which is particularly easy to machine and has attractive physical and hygienic properties. Flühs specializes in brass and uses low-lead and lead-free brass alloys that can be used safely in drinking water installations.

Precision Turned Parts Made of Copper

Precision turned parts made of copper are turned parts made of pure copper or various copper alloys, such as brass or silicon bronze, which have excellent electrical and thermal conductivity and high durability. For this reason, precision turned parts made of copper are often used in electrical engineering and the sanitary industry.

Precision Turned Parts Made of Aluminum

Precision turned parts made of aluminum are turned parts made of alloys containing aluminum, copper, lead, magnesium, and manganese, which are characterized by their lightness and strength. Flühs mainly uses copper and brass alloys for its products, as their corrosion resistance makes them ideal for sanitary applications.

Precision Turned Parts Made of Titanium

Precision turned parts made of titanium are turned parts with very high hardness and good hygienic qualities, which are mainly used in medical technology. Flühs does not manufacture precision turned parts made of titanium, as our products are largely used in sanitary and building services applications, where titanium is not normally used.

Precision Turned Parts Made of Gunmetal

Precision turned parts made of gunmetal are manufactured from a tin-zinc-copper alloy that is highly resistant to dezincification and stress corrosion cracking. Flühs processes CC499K, among other materials. CC499K is a gunmetal with a low lead content. A lead-free alternative to CC499K that we use in production is CC246E. CC246E is a lead-free silicon bronze that is widely used in the sanitary sector.

How are precision turned parts manufactured?

Precision turned parts are manufactured using CNC lathes by clamping the selected bar stock into the lathe and machining it with cutting and forming tools while maintaining the tightest tolerances.

In the first step of the manufacturing process, the CNC automatic lathe is loaded with raw material, such as rods made of brass, copper, or other materials. The pre-programmed cutting and forming tools then remove chips while the workpiece rotates around its own axis. Once the required shape has been achieved, the end product is checked for quality. Random quality checks are also carried out during the machining process itself. This procedure ensures precision in production.

The tolerances to be observed for precision turned parts are extremely tight. Special measuring devices, like a 3D coordinate measuring machine (CMM) with sensors and probes, are often necessary to check the tolerances.

The manufacture of individual precision turned parts requires close coordination with the customer prior to the machining process to ensure the required quality, the correct quantity, and the correct properties of the precision turned part.

Customized Precision Turned Parts

Customized precision turned parts are tailor-made turned parts that are manufactured according to customer specifications using a CAD model, with a focus on extremely high dimensional accuracy and high-quality surface finish.

Even before the manufacturing process for precision turned parts begins, we provide comprehensive consultation to select the right materials, machining processes, and manufacturing steps. We advise our customers on the design of turned parts in technical drawings. Even minimal adjustments to the technical drawing can optimize manufacturing processes. The optimized manufacturing processes improve the cost-effectiveness of production and reduce the price of parts for the customer. During the consultation, we also discuss any surface treatments that may be required for the precision turned parts, such as electroplating or polishing.

After the initial production of a new turned part or a new assembly, the customer receives an initial sample inspection report (ISIR) or a PPAP sampling.

In principle, production is possible in any quantity using modern CNC lathes, regardless of whether it is a small, medium, or large series.

Precision Turned Parts in Small, Medium, and Large Series

Flühs manufactures precision turned parts in small, medium and large series.

Our comprehensive range of machinery, with more than 130 CNC and cam-controlled lathes, is capable of handling variable quantities. Production with automatic lathes is economical and at the same time ensures a consistently high quality of precision turned parts.

The high precision of the turned parts is achieved by working with high-quality materials, carrying out consistent quality controls, and using state-of-the-art CNC automatic lathes that meet the tightest tolerances.

A small series for precision turned parts is primarily suitable for prototypes or custom-made products (often between 1 and 1,000 pieces). For larger quantities > 100k, we switch from single-spindle to multi-spindle machines depending on the type of turned part and its geometry.

About Us

Flühs has been active in turning technology since 1926, for 100 years, and manufactures high-quality precision turned parts in small, medium, and large series. Our modern CNC and cam-controlled lathes ensure economical production, resulting in precisely manufactured turned parts. The tightest tolerances and dimensional specifications are adhered to, which is ensured by our comprehensive quality management system. Our recipe for success for precision turned parts remains unchanged: high-quality materials, precise state-of-the-art manufacturing processes, and an in-house quality management system based on DIN ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
